Editorial: Why Producers like Jermaine Dupri make horrible executives.
Who is the last remaining artist rolling with JD?
The answer is himself. For the life of me, when will majors realize that producers don't make good execs..JD so far has been fired from Virgin Records as their exec, to being fired by Island Def Jam earlier this year. Sources have it that he is on the verge of being released by his recent venture with Tag Records... Click read more to continue
JD signed Q Da Kid,as the first artist on Tag Records, who has been sitting on the bench at So So Def for years.(And When I say years, I mean since 2004) Now I’m not insinuating that Q Da Kid doesn’t have talent, but he will never blow up. I think it's fair to say the buzz on him right now doesn't exist. I mean what do you expect when your buzz is being drowned out by the likes of Drake, Kid Cudi and newcomer J.Cole?
Again, one can't take away from his production, he is superb on the boards, but as far as an executive, I sure as hell wouldn't want him promoting my project. Look what he did with Janet Jackson's- "Discipline" album. By Janet's standards, the album was a flop.
I mean seriously JD, stick to your craft. JD is the poor man's P. Diddy.
BadBoy=Still putting out hits
So So Def? Not so much
Diddy's "Justin" restaurants= Still going strong with multiple locations.
JD's "Cafe Dupri"?= Closed, and left employees without paychecks
Diddy's "Ciroc Vodka"(with lemonade)= One of the official drinks in the clubs!
JD's "Bach 3 Vodka"?(remember?)= Yea thats been over and done with.
SMH...JD You reaching, and you are destroying your own legacy with all your failures.
As one writer put it "continuing to give people jobs who’ve continuously failed just shows the ineptitude of the major labels at the corporate level to bring in real executive talent who can truly run a record label from a dollars and cents standpoint. Since the majors want to play the numbers game, and want it to be all about meeting a bottom line, then get some real number crunching type executives in place. Stop wasting your time with music people. Because at this point it’s not even much about real music anymore so much as it’s about creating a sheer musical product, one that can be monetized in whatever way possible"
Well isn't that the Damn Truth..
